What Happens During a Recharge

A recharge isn’t just a refill. It’s a full reset of the unit’s pressure, seals, and documentation.

  • Cause of discharge assessed, whether from use, a slow leak, or a failed seal
  • Remaining agent fully removed before refilling
  • Valve and internal components inspected for wear or damage
  • Unit refilled to the manufacturer’s specified agent weight
  • Pressure tested to confirm the recharge holds correctly
  • New tamper seal applied and unit tagged with the service date

If a unit can’t be safely recharged, that gets flagged during the assessment and replacement options are laid out before anything is decided.

Signs Your Extinguisher Needs a Recharge

A few things worth checking between annual inspections.

Gauge Reads Low or Empty

If the needle isn’t in the green operable range, the unit is under-pressurized and won’t perform as expected.

Visible Signs of Use

Any partial discharge, even a brief test spray, means the unit needs a full recharge before it’s reliable again.

Damaged Pull Pin or Seal

A broken or missing tamper seal means the unit may have been used or tampered with since its last service.

Tag Past Its Due Date

An expired inspection tag is a sign it’s time for service, recharge or otherwise.
